Pleasure Intense at Christmas is a short erotic novella that features a snow-in and a whole lot of steamy sex. There isn’t a whole lot to the story here, this is down and dirty, if that’s what you’re looking for this holiday season to keep you nice and toasty warm.
WRITING
The author uses a fairly simple writing style and the story is mostly just a set up for a wild night of sex scenes, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing in a book that’s just meant to be a porno. Morina works in real estate and her business partner gets her to come check on a property with him, engineering the timing as such that they end up snowed in and stuck there when a massive blizzard hits. From there it’s just a matter of seduction games to get them into bed with each other, and that’s the entirety of the story. Like I said, this wasn’t really meant to be much more than porn, so the story itself is necessarily bare bones in exchange for a focus on hot sex.
EMOTIONAL ENGAGEMENT
Emotionally is where the story falters for me, because the dubcon scenario really kind of skeeved me out. The guy seemed like a total creeper to me, and her being seduced into his arms after consistently telling him that she was not interested in him was… truly not my cup of tea. I’m not exactly expecting incredible characterization and development from what is very clearly just a porno and not intended to be anything else, but I do dislike the presenting of coercion as sexy or romantic. The characters also just didn’t feel like they had much chemistry at all so their bone session just didn’t land for me well, because there wasn’t any apparent reason for it to be happening apart from them being stuck in the house together.
WORLDBUILDING
I will say that I do enjoy that this Christmas porno actually did utilize the holiday season within it’s narrative well, rather than as most ‘Christmas’ novels just taking place around the holidays but the story being utterly non-dependant on the holidays. The holidays are the main reason for which these two characters are thrown together, so despite that it doesn’t actually have much Christmassy trappings to it, it does depend upon the season for it’s plot- what there is of one- to work.
STEAMINESS
The sex in this book is… fine. It’s written well enough that I’m sure many readers will find it steamy and titillating as is it’s intention. That said it’s all pretty basic and vanilla, without much in the way of creativity. As already established, there isn’t really much of an emotional component to this book to hang a sex scene on so I would have hoped that at least the author would get a bit more creative with the sex acts, especially given the dubcon coercion scenario. Get kinky with it! Tie her down! But no, we mostly are just treated to some good old fashioned vanilla fucking which if that’s what you’re into, sure, but it left me kind of bored.
I’ve painted a lackluster picture of this book- admittedly I did not enjoy it much. But that doesn’t mean that someone who is just looking for a very steamy short sex story with some holiday flair won’t like it. If you’re looking for cheesy porno winter smut, well this may be up your ally.
